about
Diego Saram is a Mexican writer-director based in Sydney, Australia. He holds a Master of Screen Arts: Directing from the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS) and a Bachelor’s degree in Communications from Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City.
Having worked across multiple disciplines in the screen industry, Diego values collaboration and artistic integrity above all. His approach to filmmaking is grounded in curiosity, empathy, and a constant drive to refine his craft.
His short film VOLVER (2018) screened at several international festivals and earned an award at the Watersprite International Film Festival 2020.
Most recently, Diego completed his Master’s at AFTRS, where he wrote and directed multiple projects, including his capstone film Solo un poco aquí (2025) — selected in competition for the Austin Film Festival 2025, where it will hold its World Premiere. The film seeks to bridge his Mexican heritage with the Australian landscape, reflecting his ongoing pursuit of cultural synthesis and emotional truth.
Diego’s cinematic vision delves deeply into the human condition, crafting stories that explore grief, identity, and connection with honesty. His work blends realism and symbolism, confronting social and emotional themes with subtle depth. Through his films, Diego aspires to evoke catharsis, inspire reflection, and create meaningful human connection — both with his collaborators and with audiences worldwide.
